
The Kenya Tea Growers Association(KTGA) and the Agricultural Employer’s Association (AEA), in collaboration with the NATIONAL INDUSTRIAL TRAINING AUTHORITY (NITA), convened a consultative engagement at Mwanzo Lodge, Flower Business Park, Naivasha.
The session brought together over 50 employers from KTGA and AEA member organizations to deliberate on the rollout of two specialized, sector-specific training programs:
🔹 Floriculture Grower II
🔹Mechanical Tea Harvesting III (MTH)
Mr.Wesley Siele, CEO of AEA, emphasized the need to align industry training with evolving business demands, noting that structured, competency-based curricula will enhance productivity and elevate workforce professionalism across the agricultural sector.
Ms. Lindah Oluoch, CEO of KTGA, reaffirmed KTGA’s commitment to sustainable, technology-driven agricultural practices. She highlighted the Mechanical Tea Harvesting curriculum as a key driver of operational efficiency and quality assurance, while advocating for its continued refinement to reflect the use of advanced machinery within the sector.
Ms. Jane Kamau and Mr. Peter Njiru of NITA presented the curricula rollout strategy, certification framework, and phased implementation plan.
Mr. John Cheruiyot Kiprogony of Browns Plantations Kenya emphasized that fostering global sustainability in the current business landscape requires collective responsibility and is key to developing resilient agricultural enterprises.
The Floriculture and MTH curricula are expected to deliver wide-ranging benefits to the sector, including:
